RALEIGH – Earlier this summer, when President Donald Trump asserted that a vaccine would be ready by the end of the year, the Left and the press mocked him. It would take a miracle, they said.
Well, here we are about two weeks from Christmas and the first batches of SARS-CoV2 vaccines are being delivered to about 145 facilities across the country, including North Carolina. What’s more, this particular Pfizer vaccine is reportedly 95 percent effective and it’s joined by competing vaccines that sport similar success rates.
Whether it is simply the innovation unleashed by a united and sole focus on a pressing problem, or the genius of Operation Warp Speed in removing bureaucratic impediments to let that innovation occur more expeditiously, the current results equate to a Christmas miracle.
Starting Dec. 14 through Dec. 18, hospitals across North Carolina are expected to receive more than 85,000 doses of the vaccine, which must be kept at ultra-cold temperatures to remain viable. Major medical institutions like Duke University Hospital in Durham and Atrium Health in Charlotte received doses Monday morning, with frontline medical workers and high-risk groups like those in long term care facilities expected to get the first access.

But while the first doses of an effective vaccine are arriving in miraculous fashion, the full role out to the public will be far more drawn out. N.C. Health Czar Mandy Cohen said that she doesn’t expect the vaccine to be available to the wider public until spring of next year.
In keeping with the rest of the COVID cultural phenomenon, then, mask shaming, social distancing admonishments, and lockdowns will continue in earnest.
While the goal posts move at breakneck speed in order to keep the masses fearful and obedient, let it not diminish the truly remarkable achievement of developing this vaccine to a worldwide pandemic in record time. And although the Left will work overtime to deny it, to obscure it, much of the thanks for setting the conditions enabling this Christmas miracle are owed to President Donald Trump.
