Charlotte Juneteenth Block Party Shooting, 2 Dead, Dozen Injured

CHARLOTTE – What’s being described as an ‘impromptu block party’ in the Queen City, with hundreds ostensibly celebrating Juneteenth, ended in a hail of bullets leaving two people dead, three in critical condition, and multiple others injured by bullets and fleeing cars.

From WSOCTV:

“[…] CMPD said this all started around 12:30 a.m. when MEDIC responded to reports of a person hit by a car on Beatties Ford Road and Lasalle Street, near Catherine Simmons Avenue.

As soon as they arrived, shots were fired. Shortly after, officers found 29-year-old Kelly Miller with a gunshot wound lying in the roadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another gunshot victim, 28-year-old Christopher Gleaton, was taken to the hospital, but he later died from his injuries.

Officials said eight other people were shot — three of those people are in critical condition.

Five people were also hit by cars. According to police, one person was the original victim officers were responding to while the other four were hit running for safety. […]”

According to accounts, and some video footage, people were doing doughnuts in cars, and fireworks were being set off, when someone was hit by a car. An ambulance responded, and then as medics attempted to care for the person hit by a car, shots rang out, hitting multiple people, and panic ensued. Multiple shooters were involved, police say.

Making matters worse, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department investigation efforts have been frustrated by the fact that no one is talking to the police to provide witness accounts. Multiple shooters, more than 100 rounds fired into crowd, two people dead, three in critical condition, more injured, and no one is talking.

CMPD is asking for any and all video of the incident to be submitted for review to help identify the shooters.
