Carrboro Town Hall Voting Site is Flying BLM Flags, Refuses to Remove Them After Letter from State Board fo Elections

BLM flags fly at the Carrboro Town Hall early voting site

CARRBORO – Sure, your town is Woke, but is it ‘flying Black Lives Matter flags at early voting sites’ Woke? Carrboro is, and after complaints to the Board of Elections, town officials are refusing to take down a series of BLM flags flying at its main early voting site at town hall.

From ABC11:

“[…] On Wednesday, the executive director of the North Carolina State Board of Elections sent a letter to the mayor and town council after receiving complaints about the flags hanging outside Town Hall.

Back in July, the Town approved a motion to allow the flags “supporting Black Lives Matter along with gel lights” to fly at Town Hall.

The flags have been hanging there ever since.

Now, Town Hall is an early voting site for the November General Election.

State Board of Elections Executive Director Karen Brinson Bell sent a letter addressed to Mayor Lydia Lavelle and the Carrboro Town Council, saying that they’ve received “a couple of emailed complaints” about the voting site.

“After receiving word today from the General Counsel for the Republican Party that there were numerous additional complaints, we feel we must formally request you remove these flags for the duration of the early voting period, which concludes in three days on Saturday, October 31, 2020,” the letter read.

It continued: “The flags are attached to the front of the one-stop site and therefore could be interpreted as an official endorsement by the board of elections in favor of a particular movement. While these flags may be a supported symbol of the Town of Carrboro, the one-stop early voting site is open to any Orange County voter and therefore the site must provide the opportunity for all voters to exercise their right to vote without intimidation or hindrance.” […]”

Carrboro officials are so Woke they essentially said, ‘No thanks. No Justice. No Peace.’

The complaints rightly pointed out that BLM is an overtly political organization and movement, and flying their flags at Town Hall early voting sites is an obvious political endorsement in direct violation of election rules.

You can’t wear a Trump 2020 shirt to the polls, but a town can fly BLM flags at its Town Hall early voting site?

It will be interesting to see what the State Board does next. This is a Democrat Board, dominated by Cooper appointees, and very much on the Left, but even they recognize that flying these flags is a blatant breaking of the rules.

Carrboro’s refusal is tantamount to a ‘Make me!’ dare; so, will they?

There have been countless news reports cautioning against and preparing people for voter intimidation at the polls. Those reports focus almost exclusively on spinning a narrative that Trump supporters and Republican poll watchers will be bullying people at voting sites.

Here again, the fear mongering was pure projection. Town Halls are literally ‘flying the flag’ of a radical political movement exclusively supporting Democrats on the ballot.
