Bladen County BOE Vice Chair Suddenly Resigns Amid Fraud Investigations

BLADEN COUNTY – As the heat turns up on those closest to election activities in Bladen County – which were at best unethical, at worst felonious – some of them are electing to just step away and avoid the fall out of apparent fraud in the 9th District.

Case in point is Jens Lutz, vice chair of the Bladen County Board of Elections, who has suddenly resigned in the middle of fraud investigations.

“Jens Lutz confirmed his resignation to WBTV on Friday night, a short time after it became official.

Lutz, a Democrat, was among the first to share details of absentee ballots cast in the 2018 election as scrutiny grew surrounding potential irregularities in the wake of the North Carolina State Board of Elections refusing to certify the results of the 9th Congressional District.

A man who was hired as a contractor for Mark Harris’ campaign in that election, McRae Dowless, has emerged as a central figure in the ongoing investigation. Dowless was paid to coordinate absentee ballot promotion efforts in Bladen and Robeson counties.”

There is at least one person pointing out the Lutz was actually business partners with McCrae Dowless.

“Lutz, as Vice Chair of the Bladen County Board of Elections, was helping to coordinate the state’s investigations into election fraud. But Lutz was business partners with the the central figure in the investigation (McCrae Dowless) and a donor to one of the entities under investigation (Patriots for Progress).”

The author presents a lot of details supporting the connections between the two, but completely leaves out the fact that Lutz is a Democrat. Or that McCrae was a Democrat until 2015.

How? Well, because the author of this newsletter Judd Legum, is also the founder and editor at ThinkProgress, within the Center for American Progress organization, and, as such, can only present ‘popular information’ that fits the Progressive narrative. In this instance that narrative from Legum seems to be that Bladen County is nothing but a bunch of hicks, who happen to be cousins, and are engaged in fraud exclusively to benefit Republicans.

The truth is much more nuanced than that, of course. There seems to have been a culture of corruption inculcated in Bladen County, and Robeson County, and others, in which cheating became a standard practice and the fixers were usually for sale. This time the Harris campaign got caught up in it, but Democrats have been THE dominant players in this game for years.
