BDSM “Fetish Fitness” Comes to Durham

A new risqué fitness class made its appearance in High Point in the beginning of January.

“Felyne Fetish Fitness” is a kink and BDSM-infused workout class. Lead by its instructor, Candace Linger (known as “Coach Felyne”), the class is meant to bring exercise and erotica together.

The coach describes the class, “A lot of fitness clients are out of touch with their bodies. They have no understanding of how pleasure operated in their body or how to conjure pleasure for themselves. Fitness and kink are both part of the self-care category,” according to Triad City Beat.

However, this fitness class in High Point was not the first time Coach Felyne hosted a kink-infused class. Hosting multiple “JahRation Dance” classes and “Erotic Liberation” classes around North Carolina, “Mistress” Linger seek to “allow(s) you to experience exercise domination to help push you towards your better health and pleasure.”

According to the Triad City Beat, “Liger started out in the kink world after she took a vow of celibacy. She had gone through a number of unsatisfying relationships and decided to take sex out of the equation.” So, her alternative to sexual relations is getting involved with BDSM? Something isn’t adding up.

These 90 minute workout classes are aimed at providing “education and tools… to encourage healthier decisions long after the spankings stop,” according to Evensi.

Creeping its way into becoming mainstream society, BDSM classes are coming to Durham on February 8. The “Black Kink: BDSM 101 & Radical Consent Workshop” will be hosted at The Pinehook. Interestingly, the event claims to be “open” and “inclusive”, but only to those listed in the description.

“…centers people of color, non-binary, LGBTQIA, and differently-abled folx.”

Whatever “differently-abled folx” is? There seems to be no welcoming invite of white or straight individuals to these classes and workshops. This movement, that has over 3,000 likes on Facebook, is becoming a normalized movement in North Carolina. These radical postmodern ideas have worked their way into everyday life with extreme movements like this.

Of course, if a strange event like this is to take place in the Triangle, what better place to host it than liberal-leaning Durham?

Interestingly, Coach Felyne is also a social justice warrior, raising money for #ProjectBlackbird. According to its Facebook page, the movement seeks to pay bail for those who can’t afford it:

“We advocate for black folks who’ve been jailed due to inability to afford bail, unfair sentencing practices, and the stories that define the need for criminal justice reform across Oklahoma and the nation. Within our work, we highlight storytelling as a medium to humanize the people who are most impacted by mass incarceration”

The movement only helps “black folks”? Seems a little one-sided. Does this movement pay bail for anyone simply because they are “black folks”?

It seems “Coach Felyne” is only interested in helping out non-white, LGBT, non-binary clients fulfill their need for BDSM training. To each their own, but the popularity of such ‘progressive’ exercise is truly a sign of the times.
