WASHINGTON, D.C. – For the last week the Democrats and the media — one in the same — have been hyperventilating over President Donald Trump’s phone call with the new Ukrainian president and how it deserves impeachment right away. Little more than 12 months out from the 2020 elections, the Left and House Leadership suddenly got spooked into impeachment overdrive for some reason. In their hysteria they have spun the narrative, essentially, that Trump is already impeached as they hide their own transgressions in plain sight.
However, the Democrats hopes of dragging Trump down with a collusion hoax redux and reinvigorated impeachment talk were likely dashed when they saw the first poll numbers after a week of impeachment saturation.
From the New York Post:
“[…] President Trump’s approval has risen to 49 percent — its highest mark this year, according to a new poll.
Despite the launch of impeachment proceedings, the president saw a 2-point increase from a poll a month ago, according to the new Hill-HarrisX survey released on Wednesday and taken after the impeachment inquiry was begun.
That makes him just 2 points shy of his highest-ever approval rating of 51 percent last August, according to The Hill.
Just as encouraging for the president, his disapproval also dropped — to 51 percent, his lowest level this year.
The Harris survey is among Trump’s best poll results this week. […]”
At that rate, the president probably wants Pelosi and company to keep up their impeachment bluster. The more the Democrats and the media push Trump under the bus for manufactured reasons to cover up their own mess, the more his support will rally behind him.
Such polling should only add to Trump’s confidence, which he is reportedly expressing in letter form Friday to Speaker Nancy Pelosi in a way that only Donald Trump can. He’s daring her to officially launch the inquiry and hold a vote.
From Fox News:
“The White House will send House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., a letter as early as Friday “daring” her to hold a vote on Democrats’ impeachment inquiry into President Trump, Fox News has confirmed.
The letter will say the White House won’t comply with the Democrats’ investigation because Pelosi hasn’t codified the probe with a formal vote on the House floor. Its tone will be consistent with that of the letter House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., sent to the speaker on Thursday, Fox learned. […]”
So, will she or won’t she? Trump seems assured they don’t even have the votes in the House to get it done. What’s more, an official inquiry may wade into exactly what corruption in Ukraine Trump and Zelensky were referring to, and the Democrats can ill afford for that to be front page news. After all, they’ve worked so hard to keep if off the front pages for years now.
