Anonymous Trust Gives Millions to NC State College of Education to Fund, Train, and Disseminate Woke Teachers to ‘Advance Equity’ and ‘Transform’ Eastern NC

MOREHEAD CITY – The Anonymous Trust has gifted $7.25 million to N.C. State University’s College of Education, according to EDNC, to fund a scholarship program that grooms and deploys aspiring teachers to be ‘change agents’ for the purpose of advancing ‘diversity, equity, and inclusion.’

The program is called the Transformational Scholarships Program, and this anonymous $7.25 million gift, the largest of its kind in school history, is earmarked for transforming the pool of teachers instructing kids in Eastern North Carolina, specifically.

From EDNC:

“This new Transformational Scholarships program will be truly transformational. It will transform the lives of 100 students from Eastern North Carolina who may otherwise not be able to afford college. But also, through the preparation they will receive in our college, these aspiring teachers will go on to transform the lives of those children and youth they teach,” said N.C. State College of Education Dean Mary Ann Danowitz, D.Ed, in a press release. “What’s more, as these Transformational Scholars become part of the change agent educational workforce of Eastern North Carolina, they will deepen the collective impact of teachers and administrative leaders working together to strengthen and lift up entire schools and communities.” […]

The press release states that scholarship recipients “will be selected based on their demonstrated financial need; the community where they live; their commitment to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion; and their commitment to the teaching profession.”

Part of the goal of the scholarship program is to diversify the teacher pool in North Carolina. The press release states that 20% of the state’s teachers are teachers of color while more than half of the state’s student population are students of color. […]”

As is now custom, the goals here are shrouded in the Woke language of diversity and inclusion, ostensibly aiming to increase minority representation in the teaching profession while actually focusing explicitly on increasing the share of Woke teachers in Eastern North Carolina.

Such a regional focus is notable. While the urban/suburban Piedmont population centers of North Carolina are notoriously deep blue, most of Eastern North Carolina is quite the opposite. Steeped in a tradition and culture of self-reliance and independence stretching back hundreds of years, the most counties in the region are conservative strongholds. A sampling of 2020 election results shows Donald Trump carrying more than 70 percent of the vote in Carteret, Camden, and Currituck counties. Much of the Eastern North Carolina map is just as red, and congressional representation has been politically conservative for decades.

So, with the counties like Wake and Durham long ago thoroughly ‘transformed’ into deep blue lagoons of COVID panic and Critical Race Theory, the purveyors of Woke Cultural Revolution now have their eyes (and millions of dollars) set on transforming this backward place into the next growth market for social justice indoctrination. The dark money millions may not have be able to quell the adults piloting through a huge MAGA boat parade on the Crystal Coast; but the Left can fund, train, and place Woke teachers in their kids schools with an aim of progressively ‘transforming communities’ over time.

And that is just what the College of Education plans to do with this money, as they state explicitly in the press release.
