ASHEVILLE – The city of Asheville doesn’t have any restrictions on the baring of breasts in public, and so once a year the ‘Land of the Sky’ becomes a ‘Sea of Nipples’ nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Sunday, August 25, the GoTopless rally will commence in Asheville and about 30 other cities across the country to celebrate women’s suffrage and the cooresponding 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
From Asheville Citizen-Times:
“Pack Square will host another rally for GoTopless day this year on Aug. 25, the day before the 19th Amendment — which granted women the right to vote — celebrates its 99-year anniversary.
“Laws that govern men and women differently based solely on gender (are) not only wrong, but (are) unconstitutional,” GoTopless spokesperson LaDonna Allison wrote in a press release.
“We live in a country that says it is all right for me to carry my gun in public but my breasts are an offense,” Allison said. […]”
While attendance at the topless rally has apparently dwindled in recent years, you can imagine the kind of crowd such an event attracts, between those willing to bare it all, and those that show up merely to ogle.
So if you’re looking to get out over the weekend for some wholesome family fun, you might want to steer clear of Asheville on Sunday.
