According to Plan? After Mob Allowed to Lynch Statues, Cooper Cites Public Safety to Remove Remaining Confederate Monuments at State Capitol

RALEIGH – Governor Roy Cooper has had all remaining Confederate statues and monuments from the grounds of the Old State Capitol, citing public safety, after a mob rushed and lynched statues on Friday night.

Well, more accurately, a mob was invited to take the monument and destroy the statues.

Friday night’s Juneteenth ‘celebration’ in Raleigh quickly morphed into another mob bent on destroying things they find offensive. The ire was directed at a familiar foe, one particular Confederate monument on the State Capitol grounds that’s been one focal point of BLM protests for weeks now. Two statues from the monument to the ‘Confederate Dead’ on the west side of the Capitol were strapped up and torn down, to be dragged down the street and ‘lynched.’

This is the unsafe scenario Cooper presumably wants to prevent from recurring by having crews go to great lengths to remove substantial Confederate monuments and statues.

Until recently, the Old State Capitol grounds was under heavy protection during frequently violent and destructive mob actions to destroy property. The National Guard, and a huge amount of State Capitol Police power have been there to ensure those fomenting riots.

A lot of those police were there Friday night as well, but instead of orders to protect the State Capitol grounds from the mob, police were reportedly ordered to stand down. No doubt the professional mob leaders were tuned into the ordered retreat, and took full advantage.

Governor Roy Cooper facilitated the ‘threat to public safety’ he is used to justify removing the other statues.

“I have ordered the Confederate monuments on the Capitol grounds be moved to protect public safety. I am concerned about the dangerous efforts to pull down and carry off large, heavy statues and the strong potential for violent clashes at the site. If the legislature had repealed their 2015 law that puts up legal roadblocks to removal we could have avoided the dangerous incidents of last night.

“Monuments to white supremacy don’t belong in places of allegiance, and it’s past time that these painful memorials be moved in a legal, safe way.”

A very convenient way to short-circuit the (admittedly onerous) laws and rules about removing such statues.  If the integrity of the physical structure, or public safety is threatened, they can be hauled off.

Not many people are shedding tears for White Supremacy, because, despite the Woke Left’s delusions, nearly all people reject such nonsense. Most people, however, should see the potential problems with allowing violent mobs to dictate dogma to the rest of us. And plenty of people recognize that erasing history as anathema to honest human progress.

Roy Cooper’s version of Law and Order is to complain about the 2015 statues law, and his despicable order to surrender the Old State Capitol grounds to the mob.

The spectrum of sacrilegious symbols is bound to expand, as we well know now, to include ever more references to real or imagine oppression in the past. There are many more statues on the grounds, former Democrat Governor Charles Aycock being a prominent one with a pretty blatant resume of racism. Will those be targeted? Are they now a public safety hazard?

George Washington stands tall on the south side of the State Capitol grounds, very near where the other were torn down. Washington statues have been targeted elsewhere by woke mobs, is the father of our nation — our first president, the reason we have a civilian led military, the reason we have the Constitution, the man that has, perhaps, more to do with forging the United States of America than anyone else — is this statue now a threat to public safety?

Since we’ve been told so clearly now by BLM leaders that it is the United States of America itself that they must disassemble. Will the flag flying atop the Old State Capitol building become a target sufficient to remove it for public safety? Wouldn’t want a ‘protester’ to get hurt trying to scale the flag pole. Closer to the ground; the building itself was constructed with slave labor.

Where does this end? What happens if Cooper surrenders George Washington to a mob of woke warriors?
