Congressman Walter Jones Co-Sponsors Bill For U.S. To Withdraw From UN

North Carolina conservative Congressman Walter Jones has joined with four of his colleagues to co-sponsor a bill that would remove the United States from the United Nations, and evict the scandal plagued global body from the country.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen the outrage directed at the UN from both sides of the aisle increase exponentially after the body adopted a resolution which described Israeli settlements in occupied areas of the West Bank and East Jerusalem as a “flagrant violation” of international law.

The Obama administration decided to sit on the sidelines for the vote, undoubtedly a slap in the face to our close ally Israel.

A statement from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office called the vote “shameless” and said, “Israel rejects the anti-Israel resolution at the United Nations.”

On the matter of the decision by the President of the United States to sit on the sideline as the rest of the world bullied the only democracy in the Middle East, the statement said, “The Obama administration not only failed to protect Israel against the UN’s obsession with Israel, it collaborated with the UN behind Israel’s back.”

“Israel looks forward to working with President-elect Trump and with all our friends in Congress, Republicans and Democrats alike, to negate the harmful effects of this absurd resolution,” the statement continued.

And Republicans in Congress have already responded in a big way.

First, by a vote of 342-80, the House rebuked the United Nations for passing the anti-Israel resolution.

And now, thanks to Congressman Jones and four of his colleagues, the House is set to vote on whether or not the United States should withdraw from the UN altogether.

H.R. 193, the “American Sovereignty Restoration Act,” would end U.S. participation in and funding of the widely ridiculed “dictators club” while protecting American sovereignty under the Constitution. It would also evict the United Nations from their New York headquarters, and the United State altogether.

With a Congress clearly irate over the UN’s latest actions, and the anti-globalist Trump administration set to take office just two weeks from today, many analysts are indicating that this will possibly be the best opportunity the U.S. has had to leave the globalist body.

On the campaign trail, President-elect Donald Trump continuously lambasted the UN, saying it was “not a friend of freedom” or the United States.

“When do you see the United Nations solving problems? They don’t. They cause problems,” The President-elect declared following the UN’s anti-Israel vote. “So, if it lives up to the potential, it’s a great thing, and if it doesn’t, it’s a waste of time and money.”

Congressman Mike Rodgers (R-Alabama) introduced the piece of legislation, which he also submitted for a vote in 2015, with Jones , Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky), Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Arizona), and Rep. Jason Smith (R-Missouri) co-sponsoring.

“The U.N. continues to prove it’s an inefficient bureaucracy and a complete waste of American tax dollars,” the Rep. Rodgers said when introducing the bill in 2015.

“Why should the American taxpayer bankroll an international organization that works against America’s interests around the world?” he asked. “The time is now to restore and protect American sovereignty and get out of the United Nations.”
