POLL: Trump, Biden in Dead Heat, as Cooper Approval Continues to Sink

RALEIGH – Polls, polls, polls. We’ve got one more to share, this one showing President Donald Trump in a statistical tie with Joe Biden among likely North Carolina voters.

From the Civitas Institute:

“[…] according to the most recent Civitas Poll of likely North Carolina voters. When asked, “If the presidential election were held today, which of the following candidates would you vote for,” 45% of respondents said they intend to vote for President Trump, while 44% said Biden. Jo Jorgensen, candidate for the Libertarian Party, garnered 2% support among respondents. Eight percent remain undecided. 

This survey was conducted on September 17-20, during which the news of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg’s passing was announced.
 
“The presidential race continues, and will continue, to be a nail-biter until November 3,” said Civitas Institute President Donald Bryson. “There is a reason the Trump campaign has camped out in the Old North State in the last month, and now the Biden campaign is making an appearance – we are the state to watch for the White House.” […]”

Even with the tie, the poll bucks the narrative that Biden is leading Trump significantly in many swing states. In addition, the survey also found Trump’s approval rating increased by about four points since the last poll, moving above 50 percent.

While Trump’s approval rating was found to be improving, the approval of Governor Roy Cooper continues to sink.

Though Cooper sports a 52 percent approval rating (undoubtedly aided by the White Knight complex engendered from Pandemic Panic), that rating has slipped from 70 percent during the height of Pandemic Panic in April.

That’s an 18 point slide as voters witness the governor unilaterally destroys livelihoods with executive edicts, keeps schools closed, constantly changes nonsensical and arbitrary restrictions on our freedoms, and makes excuses for political movements that embrace a violent end to what we know as the United States of America. Fittingly, his disapproval numbers have climbed to 41 percent, the highest it has been during his term.

Maybe that is because ‘Public Safety’ continues to lead as a top issue for voters, the poll results suggest.

That is showing up in the polls between Cooper and challenger Dan Forest as well, with Forest pulling closer and closer to the incumbent (with all the incumbent advantages). In the Civitas poll, when asked who’d they vote for if the election were held today, likely voters said:

Though a lead still exists for Cooper, it is a far cry from polling results earlier this year.
