INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION – The coast of North Carolina is a sight to behold. The Outer and Inner Banks; the ocean and sounds; the coastal plains, are a treasure we can take pride in and certainly worthy of a photo. But North Carolina native, NC State grad, and astronaut Christina Koch captured a photo of our beloved coast that is truly out of this world.
It took my breath away as it came into focus. My first glimpse of coastal North Carolina from space. It’s a special thing to see from above the place where you grew up–the ocean that first inspired my fascination with things that make me feel small & planted the seed to explore. pic.twitter.com/OZoqiOVtRR

What a view!
Koch was born in Michigan but grew up on the North Carolina coast in Jacksonville, according to NASA.
She was selected by NASA to be an astronaut in 2013 and trained for two years before heading to the International Space Station in March. She is the first graduate of NC State to go to space, and we can only hope she sends more amazing shots of our great state before she returns to Earth.
