As Congress Fights Border Security Tooth and Nail, NC Suffers 19 child rapes/child sexual assaults by Illegal Aliens in February

RALEIGH – They may not agree with his methods; they may even have genuine concerns about separation of powers; but President Donald Trump’s decision to make an emergency declaration in order to wrangle funding for bolstered border security aims to prevent threats to our communities that come from illegal immigration.

In North Carolina, as around the country, these threats are too turning into tangible crimes. In the month of February alone nine illegal aliens in North Carolina were charged with 19 acts of either child rape, or child sexual assault, according the the latest NCFIRE report.

When a porous southern border results in illegally aliens moving, undetected, to nearly every state in the nation, and a percentage of those illegal immigrants commit crimes as detestable as sexually assaulting children, what excuse is there for our federal government not to secure the border? There is no excuse.

The federal government’s primary duty is to protect its citizens from those that would violate their rights. For years congress has failed to fulfill this duty by refusing to properly secure our borders, or even give executive agencies the resources to sufficiently enforce immigration laws. It is unacceptable, and it has to stop.

As congress holds votes to block Trump’s border declaration, and both parties work to whip enough votes to override the expected veto, it makes one wonder what they are more interested in – protecting the citizens of this country, or safeguarding their own power?

Questioning constitutional limitations of executive power is welcome, and healthy, in a system of checks and balances such as the framers outlined. However, we need to consider how the situation became so desperate that the president felt the need to evoke national emergency powers in the first place. It’s because of reports like this, in which the tangible effects of largely unfettered illegal immigration are plain to see.

Some have expressed worry about setting dangerous precedents for future presidents, knowing that this declaration is merely a tool for the president to enforce our national sovereignty. What about the dangerous precedents set by continuing to allow for an open border through which would wanted criminals and child rapists can enter just as easily as the family wishing to make a better life?

Congress is said to be exhibiting ‘spine’ by challenging the president’s declaration; we wish they would exhibit some semblance of a spine when it comes to protecting the citizens of our country from the waves of illegal immigrants that inevitably include those that commit crimes like we see in these monthly reports.
