American Soldier Arrested, Charged With Smuggling Illegal Aliens Across Border

As the debate over the southern border between common sense Americans who rightly want border security and open borders advocates who seem to prefer allowing the free-flow of terrorists and drug cartels across our border rages on, many conversations have centered around the idea of deploying the military to defend our border.

While that may, in fact, be a good idea, it appears we’re going to have to watch at least some of these soldiers closely should they be called upon to defend our border.

That’s because, as a recent report from Army Times outlines, a California National Guardsman was arrested last week for allegedly smuggling illegal aliens into our country.

Army Times:

California National Guardsman Pfc. Edward Jair Acosta-Avila was arrested Nov. 10 when his car was stopped near San Diego, California, about two miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border, USA Today reported.

After pulling over Acosta-Avila’s Honda Accord, Customs and Border Protection agents apprehended five individuals, including three undocumented Mexican nationals who were discovered hiding under a blanket in the back seat.

Acosta-Avila, along with one other passenger who was identified as U.S. citizen, has been charged in federal court with human trafficking

The Guardsman, who was reportedly awaiting discharge for being absent without leave, told authorities he and the co-defendant planned to split a payment of $400 for shuttling the three men into the U.S.

$400 to illegally smuggle three illegal aliens across our border, putting your job and, apparently, your freedom on the line? And you’re going to split that with another accomplice?

I don’t know much about the market for smuggling illegal aliens into the country, but I’m pretty sure this solider could have easily negotiated a much higher fee to make this happen.

We are, after all, talking about people who are fleeing – as President Trump would say – some of the biggest “shit holes” on the planet for life in the greatest nation the world has ever known.

Maybe it’s just me, though.
