BUNCOMBE COUNTY – Embattled Republican Primary contender for N.C. House District 115 Nathan West is set to withdraw from the race according to multiple sources amid allegations he owes more than $100,000 in unpaid taxes and thousands in child support.
Sources at Buncombe County Republican Lincoln Reagan dinner were told by supporters of West that he plans to withdraw from the race and that his home in Montreat, which he reported as his residence for the purposes of his campaign, have been sold.
Beyond West’s unpaid debts, he has a history of championing Thom Tillis, who recently hosted a talk in the county.
During the primary debates of 2014 West seemingly served as a foil for the constitutionalist Dr. Greg Brannon with a gotcha question set up for Tillis to knock down by implying the Cary physician wanted mentally ill people to have guns.
If Nathan West does indeed withdraw, it will clear the path for Amy Evans, a retired business woman who’s never held office and has a solid disposition when it comes to limited, effective government. In interviews Evans has related her impressive business experience to how’d she be as a House member, pointing to her past leadership in driving local workforce programs from the private sector side to solve education to employment transitions with company driven training programs.
West did not respond to requests for comment and confirmation on his withdrawal but an official announcement could be imminent.
The real question is; if West is done politically, who is going to weaponize questions for Tillis at his next primary debate?
