2019 SPLURGE: Senator Rand Paul’s Annual Government Waste Report

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Among the many notable changes in 2019, one thing that stubbornly stayed the same was the federal government’s penchant for wasteful spending of our tax dollars. In fact, for all the status quo busting President Trump has engaged in, the legislature holding the purse strings has further embraced the Swampy style of spending us into oblivion.

Shining a light on the dark underbelly of wasteful government spending is Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY). Paul annually produces a ‘Festivus Report’ highlighting the most grotesque abuses of our tax dollars. The 2019 is as rotten as ever, including over $50 billion in pure waste.

Highlights include: building up Tunisia’s political system and the Pakistani film industry; funding research that involves hooking Zebrafish on nicotine; continuing to turn over so many taxpayer dollars to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority; sending low-quality textbooks to Afghan students, with many of the textbooks sitting in warehouses; supporting “green growth” in Peru; making improper payments; and studying frog mating calls.
